“National Day of the City-Dweller Celebrated with Cultural Events and Discussions Across Armenia”

According to the law of the Republic of Armenia, the last Saturday of April is celebrated as the National Day of the City-Dweller. The government has organized various cultural events, exhibitions, discussions, and conversations in different regions of Armenia and the administrative districts of Yerevan. These events are announced by the RA Government.

A total of 73 communities and settlements in the regions of Armenia, along with 12 administrative districts of Yerevan, have developed 85 areas to promote the idea of “Fatherland is the State: Do you love your homeland to strengthen your state?” A series of discussions were held under this theme, bringing together representatives from the fields of culture, sports, education, science, civic society, government, and spiritual leaders.

The main focus of these meetings is to engage young people and introduce them to civic values such as tolerance, self-identity, citizenship, urbanism, and civic participation. The goal is to involve them in the development and improvement of government decision-making processes. The discussions also provide an opportunity for young people to express their views on the citizen-state relationship, active civic involvement, and the image of government, homeland, and city presented to the youth.

During the city day celebrations, local and invited groups have participated in “street-art” cultural events held in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, and the youth capital, Gavar. Representatives from the youth capitals of Hrazdan and Charencavan have also joined these events. Additionally, schools have published pre-project works titled “Homeland is a State” on educational social platforms or websites, showcasing students’ perspectives on their homeland, history, traditions, and culture. These works have been shared with photo reports using the hashtags #homelandisastate and #cityday2024.
