“Nikol Pashinyan’s Resignation Looms, But Can He Hold Onto Power?”

Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation is imminent, but it does not mean that he will step down in a matter of hours or days. He may still hold onto power with the help of security forces and external support. These thoughts were expressed by Andranik Tevanyan, the leader of the opposition movement Mother Armenia, on his Facebook page. Tevanyan believes that Pashinyan needs to learn from the post-war period and draw conclusions. The timing and duration of his resignation depend on several important factors, including the availability of a political-economic alternative, the presence of an alternative team of political oligarchs (including former Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan), the establishment of institutional arrangements and management mechanisms, the virtualization of mass protests, and the growing dissatisfaction of soldiers in the army.

Resignation requires careful coordination and purposefulness, as it allows for a thorough evaluation of different perspectives and options. It is not realistic to expect Pashinyan to abruptly change his stance within 24 hours, as this would be contradictory and inconsistent. Such a sudden shift in position would also have significant implications for the social, demographic, and political psychology of the people. It is important to approach this situation with rationality and take into account various calculations.

It should be noted that the average person, including soldiers, should not be regarded as heroes. They should not seek martyrdom or jeopardize people’s lives for a single action, regardless of their chances of survival. True heroes are rare, and they do not wish to fade away. They believe that the balance of power has shifted and have made the decision to join the opposition. By taking this path, they hope to demonstrate that the opposition cannot combat the struggles of those in power. They understand that resorting to violence or other oppressive means goes against their principles. They believe that the use of force alone cannot eliminate psychological barriers in the war and that the principles of duty, self-defense, and combat and the associated norms will not allow for compromises.

This statement from Tevanyan reflects the complexities surrounding Pashinyan’s potential resignation and the various factors that must be taken into consideration.
