French Foreign Minister Proposes Plan to Ease Israel-Hezbollah Tensions and Prevent Regional Conflict

The French Foreign Minister, Stephane Salignon, will visit Lebanon to present proposals for easing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah and possibly avoiding armed conflict, according to Reuters. French Ambassador Christophe Lemoine stated that the purpose of the visit is to prevent a regional conflict and alleviate the deteriorating situation in Israel and Lebanon. France, having historical ties with Lebanon, has previously discussed border issues, such as the 10 km strip advocated by Hezbollah’s “Yellow Brigade”, which Israel wants to keep away from its borders. The French offer, discussed with partners including the United States, aims to engage in negotiations and diplomatic exchanges to ensure peace in southern Lebanon.

During a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and Joseph Aoun, Head of the Lebanese Security Council, discussed the French proposal, which is seen as an important step towards peace and security in Lebanon and the region. The French Embassy has announced that the Lebanese government has presented its comments on the offer.
