“Vardashen Foundation Cancels Performance Amidst Political Chaos; Recently Released Activist, Garegin Galeyev, Speaks Out”

Unable to come to an agreement, the ‘Vardashen’ performing arts foundation made the decision to cancel their performance. Recognizing the time constraints in organizing an outdoor event, they believed it would be best to not proceed. In response to this development, Garegin Galeyev, a member of the ‘Call of the Nation’ movement who was recently released from court after engaging in nonviolent means of expression during the protests, spoke with reporters. Galeyev emphasized the importance of uniting as a nation to save Armenia, expressing his belief that Artsakh could have been saved if he were still free. He commended the brave citizens of the Republic of Armenia and the parents of heroes who are defending it, stating that the nation will stand together at their call, even if he is currently in prison.

Garegin Galeyev’s detention took place on September 8, 2023. Furthermore, it has been reported that he was found in possession of three packages of marijuana. Galeyev was questioned in relation to the political events surrounding the 393rd article of the RA Criminal Code, as specified by the Annex of the CC of the RA Criminal Code’s 195th article and the 5th point of the 2nd paragraph of the 297th article’s 2nd point. On September 9, the first court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan approved the prosecutor’s motion and decided on two months of detention as a measure of restraint, considering Galeyev’s involvement in the protests.

These developments highlight the complexities and tensions present in Armenia’s political and cultural landscape. As ‘Vardashen’ cancel their performance, it raises questions about the ability to coordinate outdoor events within a limited timeframe. In the midst of this, Galeyev’s thoughts on national unity and the ongoing defense of Armenia come to the forefront. His detainment, on charges related to political activities, further underscores the challenges faced by those expressing their beliefs in a turbulent environment.

News from Armenia continues to unfold, bringing forth a deeper understanding of the country’s current state. As events unfold, it is crucial to examine the various perspectives and factors at play, in order to gain a comprehensive portrait of the situation. The intersection of arts, politics, and individual freedoms serve as a poignant reminder of the complexities inherent in any society.
