“Armenia Passes New Law: Mandatory Health Insurance for Foreign Visitors Takes Effect from June 2024”

Starting from June 1, 2024, foreigners who plan to visit Armenia will be required to have health and medical insurance. This insurance must cover medical assistance and accidents for the insured person. It doesn’t matter why someone wants to visit Armenia, whether it’s for business or pleasure, this insurance is mandatory.

If someone doesn’t have insurance, they will face a fine of ֏300,000, which is approximately $460. This law was passed by the Armenian Parliament at the end of last year but its implementation was delayed for six months. However, it’s important to note that our public buildings are not yet equipped to inform our population about this requirement. As a result, we can expect the number of visitors to Armenia to be much higher than 900 thousand in 2023.

It’s worth mentioning that insurance companies have always offered similar insurance packages for various countries, including Armenia. However, now that it is mandatory in Armenia, these insurance companies should actively inform our citizens and start promoting it even before they arrive.
