Tensions escalate in Kirants village as residents clash with village council leader over border dispute

In the village of Kirants in the Tavush region, there was a conflict between the residents and the leader of the village council, Bahrad Arkhipiskopos Galstanyan. The conflict arose from the issue of border demarcation and territorial changes. Galstanyan visited the Ijevan hospital, where two injured residents who were hurt during the conflict were receiving treatment.

Earlier, it was reported that the road in Kirants was closed due to the conflict between the residents and the villagers. However, the leader of the Kirants community, Bagrat Srabazan, successfully resolved the situation. The police officers started to disperse the gathered crowd, which included some residents, without waiting for the arrival of law enforcement vehicles.

Srabazan explained that during the conflict, the villagers used stones as improvised weapons, resulting in several injured residents. Some of these injured individuals were quickly taken to the hospital with the assistance of an ambulance. In an interview with “Armenpress,” Narek Sargsyan, the spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, clarified that the residents did not use firearms or any other specific means of attack.

It was also reported that the villagers had blocked the road in order to prevent a car from passing through. They demanded that the individuals inside the vehicle exit the car. The villagers claimed that, based on their information, the people in the car were involved in mapping activities associated with the conflict.
