“Armenian Prime Minister Allocates 495 Million Drams to Revitalize Fishing Industry in Lake Sevan, Plans to Release 300,000 Trout by 2024”

The Prime Minister of the mountainous region, Hakob Simidyan, announced at a press conference that the Government has allocated 495 million drams to restore the fishing industry in Lake Sevan. By the year 2024, they plan to release 300 thousand trout into the lake, with 80 thousand of them being the summer variety.

“In 2023, the maximum allowable catch of whitefish was set at 600 tons. Applications were received for 390 tons, and the actual catch reached 366 tons, resulting in a payment of 29.4 million drams for fish consumption. This year, in 2024, the maximum allowable catch will be reduced to 257 tons. We will also conduct a second assessment, and it is possible that the maximum allowable catch will be adjusted again,” Simidyan explained.

This is great news for the fishing industry in Lake Sevan, as the government’s investment and conservation measures will help revive the fishing population and promote sustainable practices. It is a positive step towards preserving the ecosystem and ensuring the economic viability of the fishing industry in the region.
