“Emergency Service Alerts: Closed and Hazardous Roads Across Armenia, Drivers Urged to Exercise Caution”

Emergency services in the Republic of Armenia have reported that there are currently several closed and difficult-to-traverse roads throughout the country. Maintenance and repair works are scheduled on the M-6 highway section Vanadzor-Alaverdi, near the 38-40 km section, until February 15. This will require the closure of the road for loading and unloading of buses, trucks, and heavy vehicles. An alternative route will be available through the city of Noyemberyan.

The “Amberd” high mountain meteorological station in Aragatsotn province has closed the roads leading from the M-2 highway to Armenia’s Amberd fortress and Lake Kari. In addition, the roads in Stepanavan, Spitak, Dilijan, Vanadzor-Dilijan, and Kapán-Tatev are closed for the transportation of carriers with load. The Gyumri-Bavra highway and the Vardenyats Pass road are also closed for the transportation of carriers with load and are difficult to traverse for other types of transportation.

The roads in the Syunik province, as well as Vanadzor-Dilijan, are currently challenging for the transportation of carriers. Moreover, there are reports of floods in Jermuk, Berd, Dilijan, Chambarak, Vardenis, and Talin. Snowfall has also been recorded in the mountains of Vardenyats, Ashotsk, and Amasia regions.

Due to a landslide, the town of Jermuk is currently isolated from the M-2 highway. The National Crisis Management Center of the Republic of Armenia and the South Regional Center of the RF AEMC have confirmed that the Stepanakert-Lars highway is closed for the transportation of carriers. Therefore, drivers are strongly advised to exercise caution and avoid traveling without winter tires.
