“Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Considers Ceasefire Proposal: Can Lasting Peace be Achieved in Israel-Hamas Conflict?”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia is currently considering a ceasefire proposal between Israel and Hamas, which is in its fifth attempt after four previous unsuccessful tries. The success of achieving a lasting ceasefire and restoring normalcy remains to be seen. The current initiative requires the establishment of an urgent humanitarian corridor to provide necessary assistance to the affected population in the Gaza Strip. It also emphasizes the importance of following international human rights laws, protecting civilians, especially children, and ensuring the availability of humanitarian and medical supplies.

The proposed comprehensive international human rights agreement demands that all parties involved comply with international humanitarian law, which includes ceasing hostilities and responding to airborne attacks and military operations. However, the Security Council, consisting of 15 members, is facing internal disagreements regarding the causes of the conflict. China and Russia have called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, while the United States has urged Israel to stop while also advocating for a review of the proposed initiative.

In the previous four attempts, the United Nations has allowed draft resolutions on a ceasefire sponsored by Brazil, Russia, and China, with Russia’s two drafts receiving the fewest votes. Experts suggest that the decisive factor for the warring factions is approachable. While a review of the latest draft resolution may occur on Thursday, negotiations are still ongoing with the respective capitals. It is crucial for the Minsk Group, the Red Cross, and other members to make progress in their negotiations. This includes providing essential resources such as water, electricity, food, and medicine to meet the needs of the affected population. Additionally, negotiators should be allowed to rebuild infrastructure and carry out urgent rehabilitation and reconstruction work.

Richard Gowan, the head of the International Crisis Group, believes that Russia’s diplomatic gain in its relationship with the United States is the main objective of the advisory. While there are opinions that Russia aims to showcase American weakness, Gowan asserts that Moscow’s decision is actually in line with the ultimate goal of the advisory board, which is to strengthen the United Nations. Despite this, the United States warns against making significant political risks when it comes to amending conflicts from Crimea to Syria.
