“M-6 International Highway Reopens: Stunning Photos Show the Aftermath of Debed River Flooding”

M-6 international highway has been reopened after the flooding caused by the overflow of the Debed River. The “Highway Department” has released photos documenting the aftermath of the heavy rain that occurred in the Lori and Tavush regions on May 26. The overflow resulted in the submersion of roads, bridges, buildings, and vehicles, leading to the evacuation of residents. Due to this flooding, the M-6 international highway was closed in both directions. Yesterday, the water level in the Debed River rose by 6 meters, with 530mm of rainfall recorded in the Alaverdi-Arjisu-Noyemberyan area. This caused damage to 16 communities. However, the situation has improved today, as reported by the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations. At 8:00 am, the water level decreased compared to yesterday’s measurements. In the Ayrum section of the Debed River, the water level is now at 105 cm, while it is 70 cm in the Joraget section, 50 cm in the Pambak section, and 57 cm in the Tashev section. Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan stated in an interview with NEWS.am that the extent of the disaster has not been assessed yet, but it is significant.
