“Supporters Rally for Mayor Petrosyan’s Release Amid Controversial Imprisonment”

Supporters of Mayor Suren Petrosyan convened near the JPV office to protest against the imprisonment of Petrosyan and other municipal officials who have been fighting for freedom of speech and the rights of Tavush residents. The announcement was made on Petrosyan’s Facebook page.

Earlier, a group of around ten municipal officials, including Petrosyan, were arrested for attempting to bribe a closed checkpoint between Ayrum and Bagratashen. The aim was to restrict the movement of village residents and protest the ongoing border demarcation process in Tavush, as well as advocate for the withdrawal of Armenian lands from Azerbaijan. Some of the officials were temporarily released, while Petrosyan was transferred to Yerevan.

Last night, during a visit by supporters to the JPV, it was revealed that Petrosyan had been arrested on charges of attempting to stage a coup. A municipal official present during the arrest shared, “Though he was detained, Petrosyan urged his supporters to refrain from violence and advised them to stay patient and avoid provocations.”

These events highlight the ongoing struggle for justice and freedom in Armenia, specifically in the city of Tavush. The supporters of Petrosyan and other imprisoned officials continue to fight for their rights and advocate for a fair and just society.
