“Is Artificial Intelligence the Reason We Haven’t Found Alien Life? Astrophysicist Raises Thought-Provoking Question”

In his recent article, English radio astronomer Michael Garrett questions whether “artificial intelligence” (AI) is causing the absence of intelligent civilizations in the universe. Garrett, a radio astronomer at the University of Manchester and director of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics, is actively involved in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI), according to Popular Mechanics.

In his article, Garrett explores the comparison between observations of alien civilizations and advancements in radio astronomy. Although there is currently no scientific evidence of extraterrestrial civilizations equivalent to human intelligence, Garrett raises the possibility that computers, specifically General Artificial Intelligence (GAI), could play a role in the future.

GAI refers to an algorithm that can simulate human conversation, posing a potential threat to conventional numerical calculations. Garrett delves into the hypothetical threshold of artificial intelligence, speculating on the timeline and potential consequences of unregulated “forces of insecurity” overtaking civilization.

Garrett predicts that it could take anywhere from 100 to 200 years for this scenario to occur. Additionally, he suggests that life may exist on Titan, and AI and GAI could be the natural progression of these civilizations.

Overall, Garrett’s findings prompt thought-provoking discussions on the impact of AI and its relation to the search for intelligent life beyond our planet.
