“Mayor of Yerevan Declares: No Legal Basis for One Protester’s Tent in Public Garden Amidst Violent Protests”

The protests that occurred recently were marked by a high level of violence. However, it is important to note that within the general community and the public garden, it is not acceptable for any individual to set up a tent without any legal basis. This announcement was made by the Mayor of Yerevan, Tigran Avinyan, during a press conference held at the Yerevan City Hall on April 16.

During the conference, Avinyan referred to the events that took place the previous month, specifically highlighting the activities that were related to construction near Gayi’s pond. These activities were discussed in a meeting held by the “Protection of Cultural Heritage and Historic Environment” Committee of the Ministry of Culture.

“They had many demands that were not rational and could not be fulfilled,” stated Avinyan. He also mentioned that since 2022, an initiative has been in place to inform all residents of Yerevan and entrepreneurs about the ongoing efforts to prevent violations in green areas.

Avinyan addressed concerns about the construction works by saying, “Mr. Avinyan, you will soon announce the details regarding the completion of these construction works, which must be done by the end of this week or the next.”
