Armenian Parliament Member Faces Criminal Proceedings for Alleged Wrongdoings: Armenian News and Positive Initiatives Group Takes Action

Armenian News and Positive Initiatives group, representing Armenian Parliament member Arman Ashotyan, have submitted an application to the Prosecutor General’s Office to start criminal proceedings against Ashotyan’s actions as the leader of the National Assembly’s Committee on Eurasian Integration. The aim is to hold him accountable for his actions. This announcement was made by Elina Vardanyan, the official representative of the Armenian Alliance party, on Facebook.

Vardanyan emphasized that Ashotyan’s recent criticism of the political system is evidence of his lack of political action over the past twenty months. The European Society for Solidarity with Armenia has also called on Ashotyan to address the situation responsibly.

We have provided evidence to show that criticism should not be part of political debate and should not interfere with the course of justice. Therefore, Ashotyan’s recent condemnation of the female employees of “Sinergi” company and his personal nomination of 65 candidates from the Armenian Alliance party for the local elections are seen as abuses of power. Unfounded complaints would not only harm individuals but also the general public.

Armen Ashotyan, Mikayel Aslanyan, Narek Malayan, Vazgen Saghatelyan, and Narek Samsonyan cannot and should not ignore our society’s demand for genuine democratic leadership.

It is crucial for internal non-violence and justice that the leaders of these influential groups are held accountable and are not interfered with by political leaders through criticism, as Armen Ashotyan and other political figures have done.
