“Congresswoman Maik Johnson to Propose Resolution on Armenian Genocide in US House of Representatives”

Two members of the National Assembly’s Public Relations committee have revealed that Congresswoman Maik Johnson, a member of the US Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, is planning to introduce a resolution on the Armenian Genocide in the US House of Representatives. The resolution is expected to be presented starting April 9. Mike Töner, co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, expressed his optimism that the resolution will be passed by Congress before the next question-and-answer session in the House. Another member of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, Mike Lolle, confirmed that Johnson has assured him the resolution will be discussed soon. The Congress will be back in session on April 9, working until April 22, during which time the resolution on Ukrainian aid should also be discussed. The specific form of support from Congress to Ukraine remains unclear, but the offer from the Armenian National Assembly to provide financial assistance is valued at approximately $95 billion, with $60 billion allocated to Kyiv. Margarita Grin, a member of the Armenian National Assembly, is said to be opposing Johnson’s position on the Ukrainian aid plan, putting its success at risk. However, the Democratic Caucus to the Armenian friendship, which is mostly supported by Kyiv’s opposition, may step in to support the resolution. Ukrainians and Western diplomats stress the importance of US military assistance in countering Putin’s influence.
