US Deputy Secretary of State Discusses Meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister amid Rising Tensions in the Caucasus

The US Deputy Secretary of State, Matthew Miller, recently discussed the upcoming meeting scheduled for April 5 with several key officials including Maria Zakharova, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation; Nikol Pashinyan, the Prime Minister of Armenia; Charles Michel, the President of the European Council; and Antony Blinken, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. Miller acknowledged that the recent tension in the region was a result of Russia’s actions in the past few months. He also emphasized that the developments in Brussels would impact Armenia’s domestic security as the country works towards diversifying its trading relations and meeting its immediate needs.

Zakharova, on the other hand, expressed the view that these meetings do not aim to establish peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Instead, she believed that they contribute to further escalating the situation in the “Armenian’s southern cave” by introducing new separatist lines. This approach could potentially disrupt regional cooperation, jeopardize international cooperation, and threaten the peaceful coexistence of the regions involved.
