Armenia Honors European Games Champions with Commemorative Stamp

On December 1, a postage stamp dedicated to the theme of “Sport. European Games Legacy” was issued in circulation. The unveiling ceremony of the stamp was attended by notable figures such as Arayik Harutyunyan, the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, and representatives from various organizations. Hovik Musayelyan, the President of the Armenian Association of Philatelists, highlighted the significance of the stamp, emphasizing its role in promoting Armenia as a sports country through philately. The stamp features the image of European Games athletes and the inscription “Sport. European Games Legacy” in Armenian and English.

During the event, a short video showcasing the achievements of Armenian athletes in the European Games was presented. In April, Armenian athletes excelled in the European Games held in Yerevan, winning a total of 36 medals, including 12 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze. The outstanding performances of our athletes were recognized during the closing ceremony, where all 10 participating Armenian athletes were awarded medals. Notable winners included Gor Sahakyan, Davit Hovhannisyan, Garik Karapetyan, and Samvel Gasparian in weightlifting, Andranik Karapetyan who set a European record, Ara Aghanyan, Varazdat Lalayan, Rafik Harutyunyan, Petros Petrosyan, and Simon Martirosyan.

The successful organization of the European Games in Yerevan was acknowledged and celebrated by Arayik Harutyunyan, the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister of Armenia, and Karen Kiloyan, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports. This recognition was demonstrated through the issuance of the European Federation of Gymnastics’ bronze medals. It is important to note that postage stamps play a significant role in representing a country’s culture and achievements, and the issuance of this stamp further solidifies Armenia’s status as a sports country.
