“Inexplicable Discontent: Government Official Claims Protests About More Than Just Prices”

The reason for the protests in Yerevan is still unclear. During a recent discussion on “Ensuring security in road traffic” at the National Assembly, Member of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security, Sisak Gabrielian, suggested that the protests may be influenced by similar movements in other countries. Gabrielian also highlighted several issues with road maintenance in the city, such as unfinished projects and lack of proper signage. He expressed frustration with the government’s failure to address these problems and implied that the protests are a response to this negligence. Furthermore, he controversially suggested the use of force to suppress the protests, arguing that it could help disrupt the negative cycle of ongoing issues in society.
