“Armenian Prime Minister Engages in Crucial Talks with EU and Eastern Partnership Member States, Discusses Regional Security and Cooperation”

On November 22, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, held a meeting with representatives of the European Union and the Eastern Partnership member states in Armenia. This meeting focused on discussing the cooperation between the RA-EU partnership and the steps being taken in various areas to enhance bilateral cooperation. They also discussed the progress in the implementation of political dialogue between Armenia and the EU on political and security matters. The recent high-level meeting between Armenia and the EU in Brussels, as well as the EU’s monitoring mission in Armenia, the reforms agenda, and cooperation with international institutions in the country were also topics of discussion.

Mirzoyan stressed the importance of implementing the comprehensive and enhanced partnership agreement between Armenia and the EU. He emphasized the positive developments in the relations between the two sides, including the visa liberalization process and facilitation of people-to-people contacts.

The meeting also addressed regional security issues. Mirzoyan shared the situation in the region, underlining the need for resolving the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh based on the fundamental principles reaffirmed during the recent high-level meeting in Geneva, Switzerland between the representatives of the conflicting sides.

Mirzoyan also highlighted the ongoing military aggression carried out by Azerbaijan against the people of Artsakh, leading to a large-scale war and causing serious consequences such as a humanitarian crisis and violations of the rights and freedoms of the population.

The discussions underscored the importance of implementing the trilateral statement signed on November 9, 2020, by Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia. Mirzoyan emphasized the necessity of ensuring the security and rights of the people affected by the conflict, demarcating the border, and eliminating territorial claims and aggression.

In conclusion, Mirzoyan expressed gratitude to the EU delegation for their active support and participation in the “Path to Solidarity” project implemented by the RA Government. This project aims to promote comprehensive territorial development and sustainable cooperation between border communities.

Armenia continues to monitor the situation in the tension-ridden and conflict-affected region. Mirzoyan referred to the ongoing situation based on the fundamental principles that received support during the meetings held in Granada, Spain, in October, as well as from the trilateral armistice announcement and the initiation of peacekeeping measures.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of implementing the comprehensive and enhanced partnership agreement between Armenia and the EU, stating that it can serve as a guarantee for the promotion of peace.
