“Armenia Proposes Significant Changes in General and Art Education: New Draft Law Aims to Revolutionize Educational System”

Armenia is currently experiencing transformations in the field of general education and art education. The Ministry of Education has put forth a draft law titled “On General Education and Instruction” that proposes significant changes. During a press conference held on November 20, Armenuhi Poghosyan, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Armenia, unveiled the preliminary draft, which includes proposed changes in the management and financing systems of general education.

“The current financing norms have remained unchanged since the 90s. This lack of change hinders effectiveness and fails to meet the requirements necessary for creating a high-quality educational environment. The new draft aims to reassess the financial provision system,” stated Armenuhi Poghosyan.

Presently, around 100 educational programs focused on general education and art education are being implemented in Armenia, with approximately 30,000 students involved. Students from the Republic of Artsakh, who have been displaced due to the war, are also joining these educational initiatives.

Armenuhi Poghosyan noted that recent years have reflected a strong demand for quality education in the field of general education, indicating positive growth. This demand is influenced by changes taking place in various sectors and the professional requirements of specialists.

“We have already initiated these projects by commencing curriculum development and organizing the educational process to ensure the delivery of a high-quality education,” added Armenuhi Poghosyan.

Following an evaluation by the management, the draft law will be presented to the National Assembly, with approval expected by 2024, according to the Ministry of Education.
