Belgian Company FN Herstal Introduces “Smart” Digital Sight to Prevent Fatalities: A Game-Changer in Non-Lethal Weaponry

Belgian company FN Herstal has created an innovative digital sight for firearms that is being hailed as “smart”. This cutting-edge technology has the ability to detect a person’s head and block the trigger, making it a significant advancement in non-lethal weapons. Accuracy in targeting is crucial for these types of weapons, as it is essential to ensure that the immobilization of a target does not result in a fatality. Unfortunately, there have been instances where a rubber bullet or plastic pellet aimed at the head has resulted in death.

The Herstal Smart ProtectorR-303T air launcher is specifically designed for non-lethal crowd control operations. It fires 12.55 mm FN SP electro-magnetic projectiles with a range of 5 to 25 meters. What makes this launcher remarkable is its ability to deliver a disabling impact without causing penetration. This is made possible through an electric-optical sight and a visualizations program, which enable the system to register and block a person’s head. When a person’s head is detected, the system initiates an audio warning, followed by activating the immobilization mechanism in an automatic mode. Additionally, the sight records the position of the trigger, providing valuable information for legal investigations if needed.

This groundbreaking development by FN Herstal is a significant milestone in non-lethal weaponry. By addressing the need for accurate targeting and minimizing the risk of fatalities, this “smart” digital sight has the potential to revolutionize crowd control operations. As more instances of misuse and tragic outcomes arise from non-lethal weapons, it becomes increasingly vital to develop innovative solutions that prioritize the safety and well-being of individuals in high-pressure situations.
