Israel Resumes Gas Exploration in Disputed Area to Ensure Security After War, Says Prime Minister Netanyahu

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that gas exploration in the disputed area will resume, ensuring security after the end of the war, as reported by ABC News. Netanyahu emphasized the importance of maintaining overall security and pointed out that Israel has already withdrawn from all liberated territories except for the not-so-sensitive areas. The Israeli government has granted permission for the delivery of humanitarian goods and the relocation of people. Netanyahu stressed that the only expectation from the ceasefire is the cessation of hostilities.

A State Department spokesman, John Kirby, was asked about the United States’ support for Netanyahu’s statement. Kirby highlighted that a final settlement on the issue of Gaza and a final resolution had not yet been reached. He expressed support for preventing Hamas from interpreting the situation differently. Additionally, Kirby stated that the United States will not revert to the situation as it was on October 6, at the beginning of the conflict.

The United States has begun discussions about maintaining a strategic gas reserve and has confirmed that it will not tolerate any intervention that undermines it. Omar Hamdan, a representative of the Lebanese group in Tripoli, stated that the United States is committed to staying vigilant regarding the gas cushion and will not have the power to withdraw or undermine it. Hamdan further mentioned Palestinian rejection of the new administration in the West Bank.
