“Yerevan Mayor’s Close Associates Arrested in Corruption Scandal; Transparency Prevails in Armenia”

Yesterday, two close associates of Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, Aram Azatyan, the governor of Arabkir district, and David Balasanyan, a local leader, were arrested. Additionally, about ten other individuals were also detained. There has been severe criticism of corruption in the public and state procurement sector. Just a year ago, Gevorg Simonyan, a deputy mayor and another ally of Avinyan, was arrested due to corruption in the healthcare sector. Prime Minister Pashinyan emphasizes to his team members that no one is immune to prosecution; it could be a business partner, a relative, or even a high-ranking official who abuses their authority. This serves to demonstrate transparency and expose those who engage in corrupt practices.
