“Journalists Face Violence and Censorship: Controversial Supreme Court Decision Sparks Outrage”

The newspaper “Pաստ” reports that the Supreme Court made a controversial decision to transfer a journalist’s “shocking” statement from a central office to a limited access format. The journalist in question was allegedly covering “national security” related topics on the page of the “Tavush is the Homeland” movement. While we find such a transfer to be unacceptable, we do not have enough information to discuss it further. If such a case did occur, it would be subject to legal proceedings. However, we did review the social media pages and articles of the “first group” activists from the “Tavush is the Homeland” movement and found no evidence of them being sued, insulting Pashinyan, or committing violence against journalists.

A significant amount of violence has been directed towards journalists, particularly those covering the events of June 12 at Demirchyan-Bagrutunyats Square. Journalists themselves have also suffered injuries. The extent of the injuries incurred by reporters as a result of law enforcement officers carrying out their duties and obstructing journalists’ work remains unclear. Furthermore, there have been threatening actions from both law enforcement officials responsible for organization and security, and members of our media partner group who engage in professional activities, including lampooning.

What we are witnessing is complete absurdity. According to the authorities, the rights and responsibilities of journalists, especially their professional duties, should be protected while others should not. This is unacceptable.
