“President Sargsyan Denies Use of Disproportionate Force and Lack of Accountability Amidst Claims of Abuse of Power”

During our government’s tenure, there have been cases of abuse of power. However, it is important to note that our authorities have not used disproportionate force and there have been efforts to hold individuals accountable for these cases. On May 31, President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, addressed these concerns during a meeting with journalists in the court of Nor Nork. He stated that there have been 2-3 cases of abuse of power, and these cases have been thoroughly investigated both internally and externally over the course of months and years.

When questioned about international organizations reporting continuous violations of human rights in the country, President Sargsyan responded by saying that such reports are deliberately targeted against Armenia. He also acknowledged that they have asked themselves the same questions, but emphasized that the situation is not solely political, but also geopolitical in nature. President Sargsyan further highlighted that during their time in office, the judiciary has remained independent and free from political interference.

President Sargsyan firmly stated that he cannot say there have been different reactions to criminal cases during their tenure. He specifically emphasized that there has been no protection of impunity in cases of abuse of power. He confidently challenged anyone to prove otherwise.
