Armenia’s Prime Minister Urges Education Reform to Tackle Unemployment Among Highly Educated Population

In Armenia, there is a concerning issue where individuals with the highest education diplomas are struggling to find employment. During a government session on November 9th, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, drew attention to this issue, emphasizing its significance both in terms of justice and social and state importance. Pashinyan believes that the problem stems from the need to improve the quality of education in the country. He emphasized the importance of establishing up to eight government-funded universities in the Academy City.

The government of Armenia also acknowledges the importance of developing networks of colleges in various regions to ensure accessible education for all. It is worth noting that the territories of the Academy City encompass a portion of the 17th district of Yerevan, the administrative area, and a part of the film studio “Haykofilm” named after Hamo Beknazaryan. The designated territories of the Academy City aim to physically accommodate a population of up to 16,000 individuals, along with the construction of at least 8 state-funded buildings and up to 8 major or international buildings. Currently, approximately 44,000 people reside and work in the Academy City.

This news from Armenia highlights the concerning situation faced by highly educated individuals who are unable to fully utilize their skills due to unemployment. Prime Minister Pashinyan recognizes the need for improvements in the country’s education system and calls for the establishment of government-funded universities to address this issue. Additionally, the government plans to develop college networks in various regions to ensure that education is easily accessible to all. The territories of the proposed Academy City have been carefully designated to accommodate a significant population and promote economic and educational development.
