“Save the Tree Movement Gains Momentum in Yerevan: Intensified Measures Implemented by Ministry of Internal Affairs, Expenditure Revealed”

The newspaper “Zhoghovurd” reports that the “Save the Tree” movement has been active in Yerevan since May 9, while the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia has implemented heightened measures on the same day.

Every day, 150-250 people participate in demonstrations and actions organized by activists throughout different parts of Yerevan. Interestingly, the red and black flags symbolizing the struggle are more visible than the demonstrators themselves. These activists employ various methods to draw attention to the caretaker government’s ongoing activities.

As a result of these efforts, the government has paid a total of 16,868 million drams in the process of implementing the “co-employment of taxis” program for joint work with the driver. The first contract, signed on May 15, amounted to 6,868 million drams and was awarded through a bidding process.

The agreement explicitly states that Minister of Defense Vagharshak Harutyunyan has signed a contract with “ELITBAS” LLC for the transportation of “co-employed taxis” in Yerevan. Notably, during the recent Republic of Armenia celebration, an incident occurred where Babayan, a government representative, used derogatory language against journalists and reporters, suggesting the use of brute force.

Pashinyan’s orders have reportedly been executed as planned. A subsequent agreement was signed with the same company, enrolling one volunteer on May 23, for a payment of 10 million drams under the “joint work with the driver” program.

According to this agreement, the Republican Motor Vehicle Inspection (RMI) of the Republic of Armenia will provide “co-employed taxis” in various areas of Yerevan, including the city center, Bagratunyats 6th district, Davtashen 2nd area, Tsitsernakaberd 25th, and the Armavir region. The agreement specifies that each vehicle’s value ranges from 1,105,000 to 1,110,000 drams.

The publication highlights that, according to the contract terms, 5-7 thousand drams are paid for every kilometer traveled, and each vehicle can accommodate 15-20 passengers. Buses provided by “ELITBAS” LLC, which transport 25-35 people per hour, are paid 6-8 thousand drams, equivalent to 500 drams per kilometer. Buses carrying 35-50 or more passengers receive payments of 10-11 thousand drams, corresponding to 650-700 drams per kilometer.

It is also reported that Bagrat Srapyan’s scarf and his non-violent actions have put financial strain on the government, in addition to having an emotional impact. For further details, please refer to today’s edition of the newspaper.
