Armenia’s State Budget Deficit Hits 2% of GDP, State Debt Rises to 48.1%: National Assembly Reveals
The state budget deficit for 2023 in Armenia has reached 2% of GDP, according to the National Assembly. During a joint discussion of the financial plan for the state budget, Minister of Finance Vahagn Hovhannisyan announced this on May 29th. Hovhannisyan also mentioned that the state debt accounts for 48.1% of GDP, which is a 1.4 percentage point increase from the previous year. Initially, it was expected for either the deficit or the state debt to be higher in 2023, but due to higher than expected economic growth and additional mandatory revenues, the situation has improved.
