“Danish Government Rejects Palestinian Statehood Proposal, Citing Lack of Preconditions”

The Danish government has rejected the Palestinian proposal to recognize their statehood, according to a report by Reuters. The Danish initiative was first presented in April at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee, where Larse Lokke Rasmussen, Denmark’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, stated that they cannot recognize the Palestinian state unilaterally due to the absence of preconditions. He added that although they do not support this approach, they hope for a day when they can. On the other hand, Ireland, Spain, and Norway have officially recognized the statehood of Palestine, considering it a “gesture of support for peace” and urging other countries to do the same. In response to the recent escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, Denmark has affirmed Israel’s right to self-defense. However, they have criticized the excessive use of force and stressed the importance of respecting international law.
