An attempt to install a wiretapping device inside the residence of Catholicos Karekin II was recently discovered, according to the “Pastinfo” news agency. The purpose of the device was not to wiretap the Catholicos himself, but rather to monitor the personal conversations of the person responsible for installing it. Earlier, it was announced that an attempt was made at the Ani Grand Hotel Yerevan, where the Catholicos was staying, to tamper with the wall of the room in order to install the wiretapping device. The Catholicos’ representatives immediately informed the hotel management and authorities, who successfully removed the device. Personal information about the wife of the wiretapping victim was later shared online, indicating that the wiretapping was intended to monitor her psychological state. The incident has been reported to the police, and legal action is being pursued to determine the motive behind the wiretapping attempt.
