“Argentinian President Xavier Millet Slams Spain’s Prime Minister as Incompetent and Ignorant in Intelligence Scandal”

Argentinian President Xavier Millet recently made inflammatory remarks about Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez during an interview with La Nación+ television. Millet referred to Sanchez as “incompetent, ignorant, and foolish” in relation to the intelligence scandal between the two countries. The tension between Spain and Argentina stems from Millet’s support for Sanchez’s opponent in the 2023 presidential elections. According to Millet, the Spanish government used its state apparatus to respond to him, causing further strain in the relations between the two nations. These remarks have exacerbated the already deteriorating relationship between Madrid and Buenos Aires since Millet assumed the presidency in December 2023.

In May, Spain’s transport minister accused Millet of using certain techniques during his election campaign, which prompted criticism from the Argentinian president’s office. The office claimed that Sanchez was endangering the safety of Spanish citizens by allowing non-democratic intervention. Additionally, Millet accused Sanchez and his wife of corruption. In response, Spain demanded an official apology, but none was given. Currently, Spain’s embassy in Buenos Aires is being handled by a charge d’affaires.

These events highlight the strained relations between Argentina and Spain, with political differences and accusations of corruption further fueling the tension. The public exchange of disparaging remarks between the leaders of the two countries only worsens the already fragile relationship, leaving little room for diplomatic resolution. The future of diplomatic ties between Argentina and Spain remains uncertain, as the political and ideological divide continues to widen.
