Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has invited the Russian Ambassador to Estonia to discuss the recent situation regarding Russian border guards detaining fishermen on the Narva River. These detentions have occurred without warning or communication, causing concern for the establishment of boundaries and border demarcation. According to the Estonian ERR news agency, Marcus Cahnen, an official from Estonian Foreign Trade, announced that Lena Sallimul, a mediator from the European Union, has been called upon to mediate the situation on May 23rd. Reports have confirmed the detention of fishermen on the Estonian side.

The aggressive actions of the Russian authorities have been strongly condemned. The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “We will demand an explanation for the removal of the fishermen and their safe return,” as quoted by the BBC. However, Russian authorities have yet to respond to Estonia’s protest.
