“US Ambassador Holds Meeting with Armenian Judiciary Head and American Bar Association Officials to Discuss Anti-Corruption and Judicial Reforms”

The head of the judiciary, Karen Karapetyan, and Leon Balayan were received by the US Ambassador to Armenia to discuss the cooperation between the United States Department of Justice and the Armenian government regarding the rule of law and judicial reform. The meeting was attended by Alexis Haftvan, the head of the American Bar Association’s office in Armenia.

The Armenian side expressed gratitude for the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the American Bar Association in Armenia, which has resulted in significant achievements in the fight against corruption and the improvement of the criminal justice system. Progress has been made in the development of anti-corruption strategies and the establishment of mechanisms for oversight of legal and law enforcement activities.

The American Bar Association’s office in Armenia has noted that the United States is interested in further expanding cooperation with Armenia in the field of anti-corruption and judicial reforms, with a focus on the rule of law. The Armenian side highlighted the successful implementation of various projects in the legal, anti-corruption, criminal justice, and probationary sectors in recent years. The recent discussions also focused on future steps for the American Bar Association’s ongoing support in these areas.

The reception of the head of the judiciary by the American Bar Association’s office supports the ongoing program for the prevention of corruption known as the “Advancing Comprehensive Anti-Corruption Reforms project,” and the expansion of cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and this program. The American Bar Association’s office will also consider the possibility of providing further support for the implementation of this program. The conclusion of the meeting reaffirmed the commitment of the parties to continue the program’s implementation and enhance cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the American Bar Association’s office.
