“Prime Minister Pashinyan Addresses the Resignation of Catholicos Karekin II and Future Interactions with Church Leaders”

I thought that at some point, when we have a certain situation, the Church would respond to and support a change of government. But life has turned out differently, and nothing can be taken for granted. Today, on May 17, during a meeting with journalists at the RA Government, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan mentioned the resignation of Catholicos-of-All-Armenians Karekin II.

When asked if he has met with Catholicos Aram I of Cilicia and if he plans to meet him in the future, Nikol Pashinyan replied, “If Catholicos Aram I offers to have a meeting, and if the agenda is acceptable to me, I will consider it. But I don’t see such a need at the moment.”

Regarding the clarity of the agenda, he replied, “No, I know that the agenda is focused on the security of Tavush.”

With ongoing movements, people expressing their demands, and civil movements happening in the country, if they succeed in convincing the majority or achieving their goals, as far as I remember, deadlines were mentioned and everyone can have a say. I don’t see any problem with that.”

Tunyan noticed that the forthcoming agenda being discussed is different from theirs.

To address the situation in Kirants, Deputy Prime Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated, “According to my information, the road to Kirants is currently open. It’s natural for people to have concerns and speculations. The Government of the RA is working on this matter. Decisions always have satisfied and dissatisfied people. Although certain fellow citizens may create problems due to their vested interests, if it’s necessary for the overall security of Armenia, compromises must be made.”

He disagreed with the statement made by CP Party member Arusyak Julhakyan, who claimed that the medical employee of the CP Party’s statement on the captain’s party had been edited: “At that time, the medical institution did not report any personal injuries. There was no mention of the country’s prime minister in the doctor’s medical certificates. The doctor did not call for violence or promote hatred.”

Tunyan, who has been a journalist since 2018, pointed out that the doctor did not report any personal injuries during the incident: “I observed that the journalist did not mention any injuries at the residence of the country’s prime minister, nor did they write the surname with a lowercase letter or incite violence.”
