“Official List to be Published: Spokesperson Addresses Opposition Leader’s Meeting with Prime Minister and Rumors of Resignation”

During a briefing with journalists in the National Assembly on May 17, the spokesperson for the ruling My Step faction, Gurgen Arsenyan, addressed questions regarding a potential meeting between opposition leader Edmon Marukyan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

In response to speculation about the Prime Minister’s resignation, Arsenyan stated that speculation arises from emotions, but the process of resignation and its outcome are two separate things. He emphasized that 54 votes are necessary for resignation, and it is important to consider the ruling party’s majority in parliament.

When asked about whether security issues could be causing challenges for the opposition, the spokesperson mentioned ongoing processes and how similar questions can arise in any country.

Arsenyan also commented on the possibility of a state of emergency, explaining that there is currently no political crisis in Armenia, and a state of emergency is typically only declared during times of war or political crisis.

Regarding the question of whether security problems could lead to the Prime Minister’s resignation, the spokesperson acknowledged ongoing processes and highlighted that all countries can face similar challenges.

The spokesperson further discussed the process of democratization, emphasizing that demonstrations of civil rights are connected to the overall goal of democratization and are not related to the personal lives of citizens. He acknowledged that citizens have the right to express satisfaction, dissatisfaction, or disappointment, and it is understandable when citizens feel dissatisfied.

Finally, Arsenyan emphasized that decisions regarding these issues can be made during elections. He emphasized that the country is resolving these matters through two paths: elections and political activities, with the ultimate goal being the elections themselves.
