“Munich Court Confirms Far-Right AfD Party as ‘Case of Right-Wing Extremism’ – Evidence Points to Supremacist Ideology and Anti-Constitutional Activities”

The highest administrative court in Munich has recognized the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party as a “case of right-wing extremism” in a recent ruling. The court rejected the party’s complaint and upheld the classification of the AfD as a “test case” by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, the BfV. This decision was made based on substantial evidence that the AfD engages in extremist activities that violate principles of human dignity and democratic governance. The court concluded that the party aims to provide a “migration-critical narrative” with rhetoric rooted in a supremacist ideology. It also found links between the AfD and foreign-based right-wing extremist organizations involved in terrorism. Moreover, the ruling revealed evidence of anti-constitutional activities by the AfD, including surveillance of its representatives by intelligence officers.

The Munich court has been deliberating the status of the AfD as a “case of right-wing extremism” since 2013. In March 2021, the BfV classified the party as such and placed it under intelligence observation.
