“Former Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia Warns of Extremism’s Threat to Azerbaijan Amid Political Crisis: Aleppo’s Insights and Potential for Armenia’s Role as Mediator with Iran and Moscow Revealed”

Araqik Harutyunyan, the former Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia, has expressed his belief that if the current unsustainable political power in Aleppo continues, Azerbaijan itself may become a victim of extremism, thereby endangering its own achievements. Harutyunyan made these comments during a conversation with NEWS.am.

He further stated that during his tenure as the head of the Armed Forces of Armenia, after 44 days of war, Armenia began to enhance its military cooperation with Iran and Moscow, leading to important agreements being reached.

However, Harutyunyan noted that when it was announced that power lies with the people and that it is the priority, this signal failed to reach Iran, Russia, and other partners. As a result, constructive negotiations with Iran were hindered, and the negotiation table was affected. This signifies the breakdown in relations between Iran and Azerbaijan.

According to Harutyunyan, Iran seeks peaceful neighboring countries, and preparations are underway for a security agreement between Tehran and Moscow. Armenia could potentially serve as a mediator between the two nations.

He emphasized the necessity of seeking natural allies, as Armenia’s existence is threatened, by stating that if someone were to present an initiative similar to Yerevan’s programs, it would indicate the need for such alliances.

Harutyunyan further revealed that the 44-day war exposed Armenia’s lack of external players in the event of a civil war, leaving the country isolated from the rest of the world.

Following the war, Armenia has decided to intensify humanitarian efforts as a civil expert. Harutyunyan stressed the importance of expediting this work in order to increase Armenia’s significance as a global capital.
