Armenian Government Willing to Discuss Military Cooperation and US Assistance, Says US Ambassador

The government of Armenia has expressed its willingness to meet with the US administration to discuss military cooperation and any assistance provided by the United States. The announcement was made by the US Ambassador to Armenia, Robert Dannevig.

The Ambassador stated that recent decisions made by the Armenian government have distanced the country from European integration and the assistance sought by the United States, negatively affecting the majority of Armenians who strive for a democratic society.

“We are concerned about the developments in Armenia, which have hindered the progress made in the country over the past 20 years. We have supported the preservation of Armenian language, culture, and historical heritage. In the past 32 years, we have built a partnership based on mutual values and the desire of the Armenian people to see their country as a member of the Eastern Partnership,” said the US Ambassador in Armenia.

“We call on the Armenian government to reconsider its decision to withdraw from the European path and to reaffirm its commitment to the values of the European Union, as enshrined in the treaties with Armenia. The United Nations remains committed to our common interests and the well-being of our people, and offers only peace, prosperity, and development,” stated the US Ambassador in the announcement.
