Russian Deputy Minister Expresses Concern Over Violation of Rights and Freedoms of Tajikistan Citizens – Phone Call with Sarojid Head Discussed

The head of the Tajikistan-based production company, Sarojid, Muhridin Mokhriddin, recently had a telephone conversation with Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Sergey Lavrov on April 30. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, they discussed the situation of Tajik citizens residing in Russia, who have been affected by the strict measures implemented by the Russian authorities in response to the coronavirus outbreak. Lavrov expressed his concern over the violation of the rights and freedoms of Tajikistan citizens, emphasizing that their rights are not being protected as they should be according to the principles of mutual understanding.

The conversation also highlighted the inappropriate actions of both the official and non-official elements of the Russian government. Specifically, the violation of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance signed in May 1993, as well as the agreements of April 16, 1999, on the preservation of the Declaration on Cooperation between the two countries, were discussed. Mokhriddin underlined that the actions taken by the Russian authorities do not align with the interests of the close-knit nation or their religious beliefs. The Tajikistan government has responded by stating that this approach does not reflect the true state of affairs and that negative actions are being specifically targeted against Tajikistan citizens.

Both parties stressed the importance of maintaining trust in military cooperation and upholding the principles of their friendship. The conversation underscored the significance of preserving these foundations amidst the ongoing challenges faced by Tajik citizens in Russia.
