“Gagik Khachatryan’s Health Deteriorates During Court Hearing – Lawyer Pleads for Urgent Medical Treatment”

Today, on April 30, 2024, the general court session of Yerevan city took place. The purpose of the session was to conduct a regular court hearing for Gagik Khachatryan, who had been held under house arrest. The court focused on evaluating his overall health condition. In order to attend the hearing, Gagik Khachatryan received assistance from an emergency brigade. However, his health worsened during the course of the session, prompting doctors to intervene and provide necessary medical aid.

Following the conclusion of the hearing, Gagik Khachatryan’s lawyer, Yerev Sargsyan, made a statement. He mentioned that he had once again requested permission for his client to receive medical treatment.

“For several months, we have persistently argued in court, presenting new evidence and medical reports, to highlight Gagik Khachatryan’s need for medical treatment that is not available within the Republic of Armenia. Unfortunately, the judge and the court have consistently demanded new evidence, claiming that the previous evidence was insufficient. Regrettably, we do not possess any additional evidence to present. Until the European Court of Human Rights addresses the issue of providing appropriate medical assistance to Gagik Khachatryan considering his health condition, we will continue to fight for his rights and the medical treatment he requires,” stated Yerev Sargsyan, the lawyer.

Additionally, the lawyer reminded everyone that Gagik Khachatryan and Karen Khachatryan were facing charges related to public administration, misuse of property, and abuse of official position. Both individuals deny these charges, and there is no evidence to suggest any attempts to evade trial or obstruct the legal proceedings. It should be noted that Gagik Khachatryan, who was in Germany in 2019, initiated the necessary procedures for his medical treatment while maintaining contact with the investigator by telephone. Furthermore, he voluntarily returned to Armenia, preparing himself to undergo the required medical procedures. On the other hand, Karen Khachatryan, who had been a fugitive, finally appeared before the court after a search warrant was issued.
