“Russian Diplomat Blames West for Neglecting Armenian Heritage Amidst Political Game; Urges Russia to Address Azerbaijani Actions”

In a recent interview with NEWS.am, Russian diplomat Mikhail Aleksandrov has stated that no one in Russia has been accused of meddling in Armenia’s internal political situation. He believes that there is a political game being played between the West and Russia, with neither side truly interested in protecting the cultural heritage of the Armenians of Armenia and Karabakh. Instead, their focus lies in expanding their influence in the region of Artsakh. Aleksandrov argues that while announcements are being made to two sides, the actions of Azerbaijan need to be addressed and not overlooked.

According to Aleksandrov, Russia does not want the EEU (Eurasian Economic Union) to be present in Armenia and, consequently, is not trying to protect the interests and security of both the Armenian and Russian peoples. He points out that Azerbaijan is not a representative of Russia, but rather an ally of Turkey and an active participant in the Turkish world lobby. This lobby is not concerned with protecting the national heritage of either Armenia or Russia.

Aleksandrov concludes that Russia has not fulfilled its obligations of protecting Armenia’s territorial integrity, not only through military force but also through political means. He notes that Russian officials are now concerned about the declaration of the EEU in Armenia and the imposition of American sanctions, but argues that they should not be surprised by these developments since they are responsible for the current situation. He emphasizes the need for a change in the political system.

To address the situation, Aleksandrov suggests that the MPK (Moscow Patriarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church) should issue a special statement supporting the overall territorial integrity of its members, as outlined in the Alma-Ata Declaration. He suggests that a press release be made and Azerbaijani actions be brought to trial, demanding the withdrawal of Azerbaijani forces from Armenian territory and the return of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh. Aleksandrov stresses that this is the action that Russia should take, rather than succumbing to Western pressures.
