Anahit Manasyan Collaborates with Top Newspaper Editors to Safeguard Human Rights in Journalism

Anahit Manasyan, a dedicated human rights advocate, recently held separate meetings with Hripsime Jebeyan, the editor-in-chief of the “Aravot” newspaper, and Gayane Zargaryan, the editor-in-chief of NewsMedia.am. The purpose of these meetings was to discuss their expertise in various issues related to human rights protection.

According to a report from MIP, both journalists presented their extensive knowledge on topics such as social media activities, the problems arising from hate speech, and the safety of journalists in the face of targeted threats, verbal abuse, and attacks.

Anahit Manasyan emphasized the significance of thoroughly studying all these cases within the organization, as she personally feels concern for the violations of human rights involved.

The defender of human rights also stressed the crucial role played by journalists and media outlets in protecting the rights of journalists and ensuring a safe environment for their professional activities.

Speaking about the challenges faced by journalists in their line of work, Manasyan stated, “When a journalist’s expertise is hindered or their work is evaluated with bias, it affects their professional activities and personal well-being.”

In order to prevent violations of journalists’ rights, suppressions of their freedom, and to guarantee effective investigations into their cases, the structures involved should be regulated accordingly, Anahit Manasyan further explained.

She also highlighted a series of issues related to the expertise of journalists’ professional activities. These problems include the annual reporting periods of the Defender and the investigation of their resolution.
