Many people mistakenly believe that the importance of their work is only validated if they are rewarded for it, regardless of its quality. However, this is not always the case when it comes to the value of one’s speech. On November 30th, during the “Days of Knowledge and Business 2023” conference held in Yerevan, journalist and scientist Naseem Taleb made a thought-provoking statement.

“Equal rights are not respected, and it is crucial to understand that making mistakes comes with consequences that must be paid for,” Taleb emphasized. He also highlighted the significant contribution of risk experts, individuals who possess all the qualities of an expert, except for the ability to perform their work accurately.

Taleb pointed out that businesspeople, political decision-makers, politicians involved in warfare, or participants in war must be aware of the risks they are taking. Neglecting these risks may provide temporary benefits, but it can also lead to the suffering of others without their knowledge, while these individuals simply press buttons in the comfort of their offices.

“I am deeply dissatisfied and believe that the world order is undergoing a transformation. In the past, people did not pay enough attention to the consequences of their actions, but now they are beginning to experience the repercussions firsthand,” Taleb expressed his concerns.

As an illustration, let’s consider a hypothetical situation in 1960 when China decides to escalate the war with the United States and bomb New York. However, if this were to happen today, China would be compelled to target Shangri-La, as everything is intricately interconnected.

“If a war were to break out between the United States and China, it would result in a major economic crisis, scarcity of essential products, and loss of lives,” the professor explained.

Vahan Kerobyan, the Minister of Economy, took the floor and expressed his perspective. “The professor emphasized the notion of putting lives at risk. I want to remind you that I am one of those individuals who have endangered their lives and were prepared to do whatever was necessary,” he stated.
