“Artsakh’s Return: ECHR Excludes Discussion, Focus on Negotiations and Fulfilling Obligations, says Parliamentary-Legal Committee Chairman”

The issue of the return of Artsakh was not discussed in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). It can only be addressed within the framework of negotiations once all obligations outlined in the relevant agreement are fulfilled. On April 22nd, during a meeting with journalists at the National Assembly, Vahe Vardanyan, the official representative of the “Citizens’ Treaty” group and Chairman of the Parliamentary-Legal Committee, highlighted this point.

According to Vardanyan, discussions regarding the fulfillment of these obligations can be conducted remotely. He mentioned that the possibility of future discussions should not be ruled out. It is worth noting that the ECHR’s mandate undergoes approval or non-approval of new powers every January, or when there are repeat elections resulting in the formation of a new mandate with approved new powers.

Vardanyan stressed that the flow of information from the mediators will determine whether similar statements to those of the ECHR are made known.
