Armenia Welcomes Record-Breaking 1.3 Million International Tourists in Q1 2024, Up by 7.6% from Last Year

Armenia has seen a significant boost in tourism, with 1.3 million international tourists visiting the country from January to March 2024. This marks a 7.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The tourism index also reached an impressive 80.4%.

One of the key factors contributing to this growth is the rise in visitors from Turkey, with a 17.6% increase totaling 254 thousand people. However, there has been a decline in tourists from Russia, with a decrease of 16.1% amounting to 215.5 thousand visitors. Among the top countries visiting Armenia are Georgia with 191.8 thousand tourists, Azerbaijan with 51.5 thousand, and Israel with 46.8 thousand.

In terms of border crossings, the Vardzia-Turkish border takes the first spot in terms of the number of people entering the country. This is followed by the Vardzia-Russia border and the Sadakhlo border on the Armenian-Georgian border. The second crossing is mainly used for road travel and accounts for 38.7% of international visits.

This increase in tourism is great news for Armenia as it continues to attract visitors from various countries and highlight the unique experiences it has to offer.
