“Citizens Clash with Yerevan City Hall over Urban Trade Violations: Dispute between Authorities and Street Vendors Intensifies”

The law is not respected and there are different opinions, but it is essential that we maintain respect for one another. Today, on April 19, during a meeting with journalists, Aram Gyurzadyan, the spokesperson for Yerevan City Hall, criticized the Municipal Service of the Municipality of Yerevan for violating urban trade and trading regulations.

Gyurzadyan expressed surprise at the number of times that street vendors have been reminded not to engage in trade on the streets. He stated, “My name is Garnik, I am a representative of the market, I have two daughters, and I want to protect my country and my land. If you don’t have a job, we are offering you work. Work is the foundation of civilization.”

One citizen, who was selling fish on the street, identified himself as a “remontchik” (someone who does odd jobs for a living). Gyurzadyan responded, “If you are a remontchik, why did you come to sell fish?”

Furthermore, it has been previously reported that the dispute between the municipal government of Yerevan and street vendors persists. Municipality employees are removing merchandise from street vendors and confiscating goods from various streets throughout the capital city.
