“Major Embezzlement Case Unveiled: Large Quantities of Drugs Seized in Border Bust”

The investigation conducted by the RA Criminal Committee’s Investigative Department and the RA NSS Personnel Management Department has uncovered a significant case of embezzlement involving large quantities of narcotics. On March 15, 2024, a 42-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were detained at the border crossing point between Kajaran and Kapan in Syunik province. They were found in possession of 3288 grams of methamphetamine, 2459 grams of heroin, and 7505 grams of marijuana-like substances, which they intended to import, store, and distribute.

Further investigation revealed that the detained individuals, along with another person who is still at large, had planned to smuggle the drugs from Iran into Armenia through the border crossing point near the village. Their intention was to transport the drugs in a vehicle with license plates corresponding to the types of drugs – “Methamphetamine,” “Heroin,” and “Marijuana.” However, they were intercepted and arrested. The 42-year-old woman’s involvement in drug-related activities came to light as a result of a previous similar incident involving a third party.

On April 17, 2024, the last suspect responsible for organizing the transportation of the drugs was identified and brought before the court. He is currently facing charges and has been interrogated regarding his role in the drug transport. The investigation is still ongoing, with criminal and operational-investigative actions being carried out to uncover other members of the criminal group involved in the transportation and distribution of narcotic substances.
