“Russian Interest Wanes in the Return of Artsakh People as Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict Persists, Says Spokesperson”

The spokesman for the negotiating team, Artur Martirosyan, expressed hope that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict could be resolved and the people of Artsakh could return, with their security ensured. Martirosyan highlighted that there is no clear statement about not allowing the return of the people, and the Armenian side’s actions seem to indicate their reluctance to facilitate the return. This is concerning because it begs the question of who would govern the returning individuals if not the internal security forces of Artsakh. Martirosyan also noted that Russian interest in the issue of the Artsakh people’s return is not very high, as they seem to be focusing on their own gains from Azerbaijan. Nevertheless, it is crucial for Russia to prioritize the resolution of this issue given its interests in Ukraine. Martirosyan emphasized that the Russians should consider the return of the Artsakh people.

It should be noted that Moscow has officially consented to the agreement between Russia’s Defense Ministry and Azerbaijan regarding the withdrawal of Russian peacekeeping forces from Lachin.
