“Chairman of CJF Exposes Illegal Use of Red-Blue Flashing Lights by Officials in Armenia”
I have been advocating for a year now that the NGN should allow all officials, including myself and Mr. Gabrielian (Chairman of the CJF), to use red-blue flashing lights on our cars, in order to give us an advantage over other drivers. Today, during a discussion on the “Role of the Legal Regulation of Road Safety” on December 1, Artsen Torosyan, Chairman of the CJF Committee, pointed out that these vehicles belonging to officials have been violating the law by using flashing lights. These vehicles serve judges of the RA, the President of the CC, the President of the IFTC, and the Director of the CJF, who are not entitled to use red-blue flashing lights, yet they continue to do so.
“In most developed countries, these types of vehicles are used by law enforcement agencies. Even the US ambassador’s service vehicle uses red-blue flashing lights. Our experts have observed similar practices in other countries, and I am convinced that they also use these types of vehicles in our country,” he stated.
As a public statement, I want to make it clear that if this issue is not resolved, I will equip my car with a megaphone from next week onwards and challenge them to try and detain me,” Torosyan added.
This is an update from Armenia regarding the ongoing debate on the use of red-blue flashing lights by officials. It is clear that Torosyan’s remarks have shed light on a widespread violation of the law in relation to the use of these lights. As the discussion continues, it remains to be seen how the authorities will address this issue and whether they will take appropriate action.
