“Rare Black Vulture Sighting in Armenia Raises Conservation Concerns”

The Armenian branch of Germany’s National Agency for the Protection of the Environment (NABU) has made an interesting discovery while conducting their program “Study and Conservation of Nocturnal Raptors in Armenia”. They have found a black vulture, a species that is considered rare and is listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Armenia. This species, known as Aegypius monachus, has a decreasing population and is evaluated as vulnerable according to the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The black vulture is protected in the “Khosrov Forest” state reserve, where there is a breeding population. The preservation of this species is crucial as its extinction would have significant ecological and economic consequences.
